Fighting childhood illness with the power and passion of whiskey enthusiasts.
In 2018, our local bourbon-enthusiasts’ group completed and amazing trip to the heartland of America selecting barrels from historical distilleries. We departed with the sense of a blessing that comes from a shared experience. And, yes, we left with selections of two great barrels of bourbon. We came home with the belief that we needed to do something good and to give something back. But what? And how?
Back home, my five-year-old niece was battling an illness called Crohn’s disease. While watching her overcome many challenges, I learned that little is known about this disease and that it brings much chronic suffering. I realized at a greater depth how much a mother and father cherish the health of their child.
The opportunity to do good clearly presented itself. We decided to auction off the remaining bottles from our barrels and donate the proceeds to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. The response from the bourbon community was overwhelming. Donations poured in from those receiving bottles and those who did not. We were touched by the responses from families fighting their own battles with this disease.
With the onset of the 2020 global pandemic, we have thought long and hard about our specific choice of doing good. We have not been able to ignore the initial outpouring of response, and we believe there is even a more compelling reason now to focus on the health of future generations. We feel a responsibility to channel the enthusiasm for bourbon toward this important fight against childhood illness. We feel a responsibility to expand our efforts and create a 501c3. We have decided to donate a large portion of each of our barrel selections in an effort to raise money for our partnered charities. We are thrilled to announce the forming of:
