Medicinal Whiskey Charity Celebrates Five Years and Over $2 Million Donated to Medical Charities

From Bourbon Barrels to Big Impact: Whiskey Enthusiasts Unite to Fight Childhood Illness

GREENVILLE, SC — December 10, 2025 — Medicinal Whiskey Charity, a nonprofit organization in Greenville dedicated to fighting childhood illness, proudly celebrates its five-year anniversary with a major milestone: over $2 million donated to children’s charities and medical philanthropies since its founding in 2020.

The story began in 2018, when a local bourbon-enthusiasts’ group traveled to the heartland of America to select barrels from historic distilleries. “We departed with the sense of a blessing that comes from a shared experience,” recalled Ryan Gossage, Chairman and Founder of MWC. “And yes, we left with selections of two great barrels of bourbon, but we also came home with a conviction: we needed to do something good and to give something back. But what? And how?”

Back home, that question became very real. Gossage’s five-year-old niece was battling Crohn’s disease. Witnessing her courage against this chronic illness sparked a deeper understanding of how much families cherish the health of their children. The group decided to auction off their remaining bottles and donate proceeds to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. The response from the bourbon community was overwhelming, with donations pouring in not just from bottle recipients, but from supporters across the country.

With the onset of the global pandemic in 2020, the mission grew. The founders recognized a responsibility to expand their efforts, channeling the enthusiasm of bourbon lovers into a lasting fight for children’s health. They established Medicinal Whiskey Charity as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and pledged the money raised from each barrel selection to benefit pediatric hospitals, medical research, and family support programs.

Since then, Medicinal Whiskey Charity has:

  • Donated more than $2 million to children’s charities and medical philanthropies throughout the southeast, including:

  • Partnered with leading distilleries, collectors, and whiskey enthusiasts nationwide.

  • Supported thousands of children and families facing serious illness.

“Medicinal Whiskey Charity was born out of friendship, family, and a deep love of bourbon — but more importantly, it was born out of hope,” said Gossage. “Five years and $2 million later, our community continues to prove that every bottle can make a difference. We pick the barrels. You get the bottles. Together, we all toast to the cure every child deserves.”
